What is the difference between the Dean of Students and my Academic Dean?
The Dean of Students Office serves as a student advocate for University related concerns. Our office also provides assistance to students faced with concerns outside of the academic setting such as dealing with illness or injury, family emergencies and other situations that may interfere with success at Cal Poly.

Is information shared with the Dean of Students confidential?
This office works with students and parents to protect privacy and share information with others only on an educational need-to-know basis or when required by law.
How do I report a suspected incident of hazing, sexual harassment or discrimination?
You may contact the Dean of Students at 805-756-0327 or email deanofstudents@calpoly.edu to report an incident of hazing, sexual harassment or discrimination.
When emergency assistance is needed call 911.
What should I do if faced with a medical or family emergency that prevents me from attending class or meeting assignment due dates?
If you are dealing with unexpected emergency situation and need to be away from school, contact your course professors via email and work out a plan for completing assignments. Should you need to take a leave or because of the nature of the situation you are not able to contact your professors, contact the Dean of Students for assistance. As a parent can I get assistance from the Dean of Students Office?
Yes, the Dean of Students can assist with clarification of university policies and procedures. The Dean of Students is also available to assist with emergency situations.
