Welcome to the Pride Center! The Pride Center is one of three Cross Cultural Centers (CCC's) at Cal Poly, along with the MultiCultural Center (MCC) and Gender Equity Center (GEC) in the Dean of Students Office. We have amazing events and services all year long. To learn more about what we do check out descriptions of our annual, quarterly, and bi/weekly programs below, or find a calendar with all of the CCCs events and services. We hope you will join us and take advantage of all the Pride Center has to offer!
For more information about our services and events, please contact the Pride Center at firstname.lastname@example.org, via telephone (805)756-7733, or just come on by the Pride Center in UU 209 to speak with one of our friendly Pride Center staff members.
Note on Facilitated Dialogues
Most services listed here are designed to support under-represented students at Cal Poly. They aim to create connections and a feeling of family and community on campus. Given the intention of these services is to create a safe-space, these gatherings are not for extra credit purposes or for class participation.
April is Pride Month, a month-long celebration of our LGBTQIAP community. Pride month is a once-a-year opportunity for LGBTQIAP individuals to enjoy visibility and support from a wide community, while celebrating our allies and promoting awareness about issues surrounding the diverse intersections of queer identity. In April, we come together to celebrate pride and advocate for queer and allied college communities (and beyond) with events that range from social, to supportive, to educational, to just plain incredible! Be on the lookout for our Pride Month calendar at the beginning of Spring Quarter!
This annual celebration recognizes the scholarship and community contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, pansexual and allied graduating seniors and graduate students. Regardless of your involvement with the Pride Center during your time at Cal Poly, students are invited to join us for our LGBTQIAP Graduation Celebration!
For more information about participating as a Lavender Graduate, please email email@example.com.
Cross Cultural Centers Social
A quarterly social providing opportunities for students to meet new people, get connected to campus and area resources, and learn more about the upcoming services and events of the Cross Cultural Centers.
PRISM: LGBTQIAP Social
PRISM is a peer mentoring resource for Cal Poly students who identify as LGBTQIAP, who are questioning, or who may have LGBTQIAP friends, roommates, or family members and/or want to be an ally to these communities. PRISM socials offer students the opportunity to meet the PRISM Peer Counseling Team in a welcoming and comfortable setting.
Umbrella: Gender Nonconforming Dialogues
An inclusive space for trans, GNC, gender queer, and gender questioning students to discuss issues pertinent to TGNC communities, and share their experiences. Be on the lookout for Umbrella Presentation Parties on our calendar, a unique opportunity to share tricks of the trade in gender expression like hair, hemming, queer life hacks, makeup and more.
A safe and inclusive environment for queer-identified students to discuss experiences and issues within the LGBTQIAP communities. Attendees engage with topics on identities, coming out, navigating campus & community life, and more. Dialogue topics change quarterly and are facilitated by PRISM Peer Counselors and Pride Center Student Assistants. The topics for Fall 2016 are Coming Out, Queer Politics, Going Home for the Holidays, and Queer Faith and Spirituality. Snacks will be provided!
A space for Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) to come together over food and conversation. Part social space - part facilitated dialogue, participants explore topics of identity, how QTPOC students build community and find connections on campus, and other themes important to the group. This dialogue space is facilitated by QTPOC graduate or undergraduate student facilitators.
Queer Women Thursdays
A fun and welcoming community where self-identified lesbian, bi, pan, ace, trans, and queer women come together and discuss the important, fun and spontaneous topics that are a part of their experience, as well as support each other in navigating Cal Poly as queer women. QWT empowers queer women to take stronger and more active roles within queer communities and the Pride Center. It also features a quarterly outing off campus for participants.
